Scripture:
“The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,’ says the Lord of hosts. ‘And in this place I will give peace,’ says the Lord of hosts.”
— Haggai 2:9 (NKJV)
Reflection:
In the book of Haggai, God promises His people that the glory of the latter temple will surpass the glory of the former one. At first glance, this may seem impossible because the first temple, built by King Solomon, was magnificent and filled with splendor. However, God was speaking of a greater, spiritual glory that would come through the Messiah and His work in the world.
God’s glory is not just found in physical structures but in His presence, His power, and His promises. While the physical temple was important for the people of Israel, the true and lasting glory comes through Christ, who dwells not in a building made by human hands but in the hearts of believers. The new covenant, established through Jesus, brings a greater and eternal glory.
This promise of greater glory extends beyond just the temple—it applies to our lives as well. No matter what we have experienced in the past, God’s plans for our future are filled with greater glory. Just as He promises to give peace in this place, He offers us peace in our hearts through Christ. In times of uncertainty or struggle, we can rest in the knowledge that God’s presence is with us, and His glory in our lives will always surpass the past.
As we reflect on this promise, we are reminded that our best days are ahead. God is continually working in and through us, and His plans for us are filled with glory and peace.
Prayer:
Lord,
Thank You for the promise of greater glory in Your presence. Help me to remember that You are always at work in my life, bringing greater things than I can imagine. Fill me with Your peace and remind me that, no matter what I face, Your glory will shine brighter than ever.
Amen.
